The Ultimate Guide to Ceramic Coatings: Protection and Performance.

What is Ceramic Coating?

Ceramic coatings are formulated to protect your vehicle’s original clear coat, but these coatings are not all equally effective or live up to their claims. Most simply sit on your vehicle’s surface and break down when exposed to the elements. The end result of these applications is that they need to be reapplied on a regular basis. Our coating is molecularly different because it fuses to your vehicle’s original foundation creating a permanent chemical bond that must be sanded off to be removed.

What Are the Benefits of Ceramic Coatings?

Everyone loves the way a new car looks straight off of the showroom floor: The paint is flawless and any pinstriping or decals are pristine. Unfortunately, the clear coat on most vehicles isn’t very hard. In fact, most manufacturers now try to upsell their own aftermarket coating because OEM paint and clear coats aren’t what they were in years past, and that’s why even washing your vehicle can lead to swirl marks and scratches. The problem with most ceramic coatings is that they need to be reapplied and often reapplied on a yearly basis, but our coating is different. The molecular bond ours forms is permanent and never needs to be reapplied, which is a time benefit and a cost saving benefit in the long run.

Our coating is a proprietary blend that has a hardness of 9H on the MOHS Scale. The only thing harder is a diamond. Most ceramic coatings are full of inert ingredients that offer minimal protection, but underneath our coating your vehicle’s finish maintains it’s original shine and appearance because our coating is impervious to environmental elements and resistant to surface scratches. That’s a significant benefit! Additionally, our coating is hydrophobic, meaning it repels water. This makes surfaces significantly easier to clean and maintain, and absolutely eliminates the need for wax. Protection and ease of maintenance are both significant benefits of our ceramic coating.

While no ceramic coating is scratch-proof, ours does provide a bonded layer of protection that minimizes the risk of surface damage. In fact, our ceramic is so hard that we’ve had customers come back to us after their insurance company has declared their vehicle a total loss due to scratch damage and we were able to sand off our ceramic and find that their original finish wasn’t damaged at all!

Washing Ceramic Coated Vehicles

Ceramic coating has many benefits from protecting your vehicle's surface to making cleaning a breeze. Absolutely no need to ever wax again. In fact, wax won’t stick to our ceramic … It just rolls off. The only thing necessary to maintain your vehicle’s finish is to wash with a non wax, quality car soap; and we recommend using the two bucket system … One bucket of clean water to wash and one to rinse your wash mop. We also recommend drying with a leaf blower, which is absolutely a time saving benefit because water rolls off of our coating. If there is any moisture left, wipe dry with a microfiber towel from Chemical Guys … They make great products. Read more about caring for ceramic coating here.
